I’ve Always Known

Screenplay by: Courtney Fernández

When Isabel Lee met Su-jin and Jae-seong on the playground of an international school in Seoul, South Korea at age 6, none of the three fast friends had a clue of just how intertwined their lives would become. Years later, an unexpected move with her family, and a youthful confession of love would lay the foundation for the lives of all three. Though each would grow up shaped by their relationship to one another, it is an unexpected dance with fate that starts with Isabel’s decision to teach at a Global Campus in Incheon, South Korea, followed by a surprise encounter in Mexico, that brings them together once again.

Now grown, with each leading vastly different lives — a university professor, an actor/singer, and a coffee shop owner — they find themselves in the position of settling unresolved issues and tensions, enabling each of them to decide what happiness could look like.

I’ve Always Known is an original drama about three friends from the playground who were always meant to be together. I’ve Always Known tests the boundaries of friendship and examines if “fate” is simply cloaked as coincidence. Is this really one final chance at the love they lived their lives for?

I’ve Always Known is a screenplay that illustrates that time and distance are irrelevant when you are with the right person, whether it is a friend, or “the one.” Taking responsibility for your own choices, inevitably leads you to be the person you were meant to be, and meant to be with.

I’ve Always Known is a screenplay about human connections, and how the choices we make can sometimes make or break the lives we lead. The story is written as a homage to the modern Korean drama genre, with the intent of bringing heartfelt storylines and characters that will stay with viewers long after the credits have rolled on screen.

“Even when something is meant to be,

you never know what it will actually look like in the end.”
