Conceptually Us
Screenplay by: Courtney Fernández
A Korean-American woman and a Korean music industry star explore the possibility of love as they confront the ultimate test of their commitment.
“Conceptually Us” is an original drama about two lonely souls, who find meaning in each other after they test the limits of love, learning that life is fully about the choices we make for ourselves and for each other.
Screencraft 2024 Drama Competition early review says Conceptually Us “exemplifies the melodramatic and heartfelt storytelling typical of Korean dramas… (with) cultural nuances seamlessly woven into the narrative. Conceptually Us “has the power to bridge cultural divides which is all one can hope for in a film that contains an inspiring story… Moreover, the exploration of loneliness and connection offers a profound emotional core… creating a mature narrative that many can identify with.” Conceptually Us “provides a visually rich backdrop that highlights the characters’ personal growth, and will also keep the audience captivated through varied and dynamic scenes… (with) intimate and memorable sequences that are sure to leave a lasting impact on viewers.”
Leena’s lonely life is unexpectedly reinvigorated while attending her favorite niece’s wedding, when she meets the younger, handsome Seojun, a music industry professional from Seoul, South Korea. Neither imagined their chance encounter — being seated next to each other at a pre-wedding dinner — would lead them down a path of healing their wounded spirits by testing the limits of love. Taking advantage of the fact that nobody “sees” them connecting — as their age difference and backgrounds don’t match in traditional circles — the two carve out time for significant heart-to-heart conversations that leads them both to heartwarming attraction, and sincere love, but not before they experience significant challenges that ultimately define their relationship and future. When you create the space to let love grow, it will grow.
“Conceptually Us” is more than a drama, it’s storytelling that takes the viewer on a journey to understand how loving someone isn’t always a complicated choice we make, but rather, it is a choice to give ourselves meaning in life.
The story is written with the intent of giving western audiences greater exposure to current Korean talent and the Korean drama genre.
This is the story that will make you remember that “life is too short to not feel the rain on your face.”
